Sword Fights on the Heights IV Classic SFOTH IV Swords Ranked
S through B tiers with damage context, abilities, and when to pick each blade.
Ranking rules
This list ranks the eight classic swords in Shedletsky’s Sword Fights on the Heights IV for public PvP: contested pedestals, Ring of Fire midfights, and streaking. Numbers below follow the widely cited classic chart (base / slash / lunge). Exact feel can shift after platform physics patches—cross-check the Swords encyclopedia and Patch notes.

S-tier
Illumina — S
Role: Primary carry blade. Highest trustworthy damage without needing a KO streak, plus Illumina fly (lunge into jump for huge vertical) and purple sparkles that reveal nearby invisible foes.
Why S: You win neutral fights against Darkheart sustain, you see Ghostwalker users before they touch you, and you leave losing fights by flying to another island. Pedestal island with beige pillars is worth contesting every life. Illumina is Shedletsky’s favorite for a reason—light, agile, and deadly.
Watch for: Windforce knockback near edges, Venomshank poison if you only nick, Firebrand’s longer corridor reach.
Ghostwalker — S
Role: Streak snowball. Low gravity on equip, rising transparency each KO, slash/lunge scaling through levels 1–9 (max ~25 slash / 50 lunge with full invis).
Why S: At mid levels it already out-damages Illumina; at max you become a silent predator. Combined with Illumina-style air control (and historically Jet Boots), Ghostwalker owns vertical space. Level 5+ is often called the only blade “stronger than Illumina” in raw output.
Watch for: Illumina sparkle detection, Windforce edge denial, dying early and resetting to level 0.
Darkheart — S
Role: Sustain and forcefield abuse. Returns 40% of damage dealt as health—even against forcefielded targets—and finishes with a black explosion aesthetic.
Why S: You outlast Venom poison by hitting something (including spawn forcefields) to heal. Cave spawn under the black mountain pairs with Shadow Sphere upstairs. In messy midfights, life steal forgives imperfect spacing.
Watch for: Illumina’s higher burst, Windforce pushing you off before life steal cycles, shorter reach than Firebrand/Venomshank.
A-tier
Venomshank — A
Role: Chip and pressure. Linked-level melee numbers plus poison that burns 1/8 max HP ticks (~every 2.2s for ~11s), piercing Battle Armor math because it keys off max health.
Why A: Long blade (tied with Firebrand for reach). A single graze can finish someone who escapes. Excellent against armor stackers who think 200 HP is safe. Medkits and healing pads are the correct answers—Darkheart heal can also offset ticks.
Watch for: Not getting KO credit if poison alone finishes the kill after you leave; Illumina out-trading you in raw DPS.
Windforce — A
Role: Edge controller. High slash/lunge with a push that flings targets far—often off the map.
Why A: Dominates bridges, Windforce tower approaches, and anyone trying to life-steal next to a void. Great answer to Darkheart and Ghostwalker users who need footing. Reach sits between Linked and the longest blades.
Watch for: Fall deaths that deny KO credit; shorter reach than Venomshank/Firebrand in pure melee; pushing someone into a safer platform by accident.
Firebrand — A
Role: Anti-Ice toolkit and long-blade duelist. Full Ice Dagger immunity while the Firebrand is equipped; tied for longest reach.
Why A: If Ice Dagger is online in the server, Firebrand is mandatory. Corridor and tightrope fights favor its length. Cosmetic fire kills look intimidating and the blade wins “who touches first” contests against shorter swords.
Watch for: Pure DPS still trails Illumina; immunity only applies while Firebrand is the active equipped sword—hotbar mistakes get you frozen.
B-tier
Ice Dagger — B
Role: Ambush OHKO. After a ~3 second arm delay (blade turns deadly blue), any valid hit freezes and kills. Completely fails against Firebrand holders.
Why B: Devastating against Linked Sword newbies and distracted players. Useless—or bait—against prepared Firebrand users. Delay makes open-field engages risky; better as a swap ambush than a main.
Watch for: Firebrand hard counter, the arm window, and getting Illumina-lunged while waiting for the dagger to “wake up.”
Linked Sword — B
Role: Default spawn weapon. Balanced base/slash/lunge (5 / 10 / 20 style chart) with no special ability.
Why B: Honest starter. You can duel if you must, but every pedestal sword exists to replace it. Treat Linked as the tool that gets you to Illumina, Firebrand, or Darkheart—then put it away.
Watch for: Everything. Do not ego-challenge Illumina mid with only Linked unless you are teaching spacing.
How to climb the list in a real life
- Spawn Linked → Touchstone or Locus portal toward Illumina island when safe.
- Grab Battle Armor and a Medkit on the way—see Powerups.
- Hold Illumina as default; swap Firebrand if Ice Dagger appears; swap Windforce for edge games; swap Darkheart when poisoned or low.
- Only commit to Ghostwalker when you can farm KOs without dying immediately.
- Study Matchups for the specific duel you keep losing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Is Illumina better than max Ghostwalker?
Max Ghostwalker can out-damage Illumina and go fully invisible, but Illumina is safer to obtain and keeps sparkle detection. Most players default Illumina and specialize into Ghostwalker on long lives.
Does Venomshank ignore Battle Armor?
Poison ticks deal a fraction of the target’s max health, so 200 HP armor still takes large absolute ticks. Medkits and healing pads are the real counters.
Why put Firebrand in A instead of S?
It is mandatory against Ice Dagger and excellent on reach, but it lacks Illumina’s damage/mobility package and Ghostwalker’s snowball.
Do fall kills from Windforce give KOs?
Often no—players pushed off the map may die without awarding a KO. Use Windforce to create space, then finish with a real hit when you need credit.
Where do I find each sword on the map?
Use the Sword locations guide and the Map page for Illumina island, Darkheart mountain, Windforce tower, Ice path, Firebrand tightrope, and Ghostwalker bridge.
Is Linked Sword ever good late?
Only as a backup if you drop every other blade. Replace it as soon as a pedestal is free.
